The black pomfret has a compressed deep body with dorsal and ventral profiles being equally convex. This species has small dark grey scales which cover the entirety of the body. This delicious fish provides light colored flesh with a very pleasant flavor - mild but not bland.
Nutritional Value:
This fish is a great source of calcium, vitamins A and D, and B vitamins, including Vitamin B12, vital for the nervous system. Contains lots of essential minerals like Iron, Zinc, Iodine and Selenium. A useful brain food, the Pomfret is good for eyesight and healthy hair and skin.
Best Served:
*The black pomfret is better for frying/deep frying and complimented with a tasty sauce to lift the taste of the meat
*This is also the fish that is used for grilling and served in Indonesian cuisine or also known as Indonesia Ikan Panggang
*Lower fin and tail is particularly delicious if fried and eaten similar to the tail end portion of a fried chicken wing
